Petro Canada Turboflo XL 46

Introduction Petro Canada Turboflo XL 46 is a premium turbine oil developed for the lubrication and cooling of steam and gas turbines. It offers excellent lubricating properties for bearings operating under high loads. Formulated with ultra-pure, high-quality base oils and specially selected additives, Turboflo XL 46 exhibits exceptional oxidative and thermal stability, exceeding that of many competitive turbine oils currently on the market. This reduces overall maintenance costs and enables trouble-free operation. The superior performance of Turboflo XL 46 is especially important under the demanding operating conditions typically encountered in gas turbines. Its outstanding oxidation and temperature stability prevents fluid degradation due to air and high temperatures. This means:

  • Longer service life
  • Shorter downtime
  • Less refilling and fluid changes

Features and benefits

  • Outstanding fluid resistance to degradation by air and high temperatures : Rotating Pressure Vessel Oxidation Test (RPVOT) results in over 2,700 minutes, 40% longer than the leading competitor tested. Refilling an existing conventional turbine oil system immediately achieves a significant improvement in oil performance. Reduces operating costs by extending the intervals between oil refills or complete oil changes.
  • Excellent demulsibility : Best results in mechanical emulsion tests, with separation after 5 minutes. Draining condensate from separators and purifiers is greatly simplified. The condensate complies with environmental regulations.
  • Extremely fast air and gas separation : Less oil degradation. Improves system reliability.

Applications

Turboflo XL 46 is a premium product engineered to far exceed the demanding performance requirements of steam and gas turbine operators. It also provides long-lasting, corrosion-free lubrication for bearings operating in ambient temperatures exceeding 260°C (500°F).

steam turbines

Turboflo XL 46 is recommended for the lubrication of steam turbines used in power generation and other industrial applications. Compared to conventional turbine oils, Turboflo XL 46 delivers exceptional performance throughout its service life. Turbine oil is used in large power plants for several years until degradation of the oil leads to a deterioration in demulsibility and a decrease in oxidation stability (low RPVOT values). Thanks to Turboflo XL 46's extremely high oxidation stability (high RPVOT values) and good demulsibility, even a partial change to Turboflo XL 46 can restore acceptable standards in an entire oil system.

Turboflo XL 46 is recommended for use in large turbines (100–1,300 MW) directly coupled to a power generator. Turboflo XL 46 fluids are suitable for steam turbines that meet the following specifications from major manufacturers:

  • General Electric GEK 32568J, GEK 46506E (ISO 32 only)
  • Siemens TLV 9013 04, TLV 9013 05 (ISO 32 and 46 only)

Gas turbines

Turboflo XL 46 is recommended for the lubrication of high-speed bearings in stationary gas turbines. Operators of large utility, pipeline, gas extraction, and combined heat and power (CHP) plants appreciate the superior performance of Turboflo XL 46 compared to conventional mineral turbine oils.

Turboflo XL 46 fluids are suitable for gas turbines that meet the following major manufacturer or industry specifications:

  • General Electric GEK 32568J, GEK 46506E (ISO 32 only)
  • Siemens TLV 9013 04, TLV 9013 05 (ISO 32 and 46 only)
  • Siemens / Westinghouse 1500 00 20, 55125Z3
  • Solar ES 9-224Y (ISO 32 and 46 only)
  • GE (formerly Alstom ABB) HTGD 90 117
  • DIN DIN 51515 Part 1, 2
  • ASTM D4304 Type I
  • JIS K 2213 Type 2
  • Ansaldo Energia TGO2-0171-E00000/B (ISO 46 only)

High-temperature bearings

Turboflo XL 46 exceeds General Electric's specifications for gas turbines, where bearings are exposed to ambient and seal air temperatures exceeding 260°C (500°F). This demonstrates that the oil is ideal for use in high-temperature applications requiring a lubricant with high temperature and oxidation resistance.

Notes on operation

With its increased oxidation and thermal resistance, Turboflo XL 46 contributes to smooth operation and lower costs under recommended normal operating conditions. However, the actual service life of an oil depends on the type of equipment and operating conditions. Our "No-Nonsense" Lubricant Guarantee applies.
